Team Lead — Field Installation / Millwright Group

Full-Time Working Lead 50–75% Travel Leads 2–10 Person Crews

The role in one line: a working lead who runs 2–10 person millwright crews installing conveyor and automation systems at client facilities across the region — installing alongside the team while owning safety, scheduling, quality, and the customer relationship. Requires 5+ years of installation experience and 3+ years leading, with 50–75% travel.

Position Overview

J+H Automation Solutions is seeking a trustworthy and experienced individual who can work independently and with limited supervision. This role is responsible for leading field installation crews at client facilities around the region, working with the Field Installation Group Manager to lead 2 to 10 person crews and ensure the successful installation of automation projects for the company.

The position requires excellent customer relations experience and the ability to manage our Field Installation and Services Group members inside our customers' facilities. One of the primary responsibilities for this position is ensuring that OSHA, customer-specific, and J+H Automation Solutions safety standards are always adhered to.

This is a working Lead position — you'll perform installation work both independently and within the team you're leading.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review installation requirements and scheduling with the Field Installation Group Manager, Engineering teams, and Project Manager
  • Communicate with the project manager on day-to-day progress and issues on the jobsite
  • Maintain a very high level of mechanical understanding of the equipment J+H produces, distributes, and installs
  • Read and understand field installation prints and documents
  • Facilitate and ensure team members adhere to all safety requirements and best practices of J+H as well as the job site's requirements
  • Manage all field personnel on the installation site
  • Train and mentor field installation personnel and millwrights in the skills required to successfully execute installations
  • Ensure crew members are equipped with the proper tools and equipment to perform the required work
  • Ensure the work area is clean and organized before, during, and after the project
  • Check equipment to ensure it is installed in accordance with engineering specifications for each project
  • Complete installation, testing, debug, and startup of equipment or systems to the satisfaction of the customer
  • Effectively communicate and resolve customer complaints in a timely manner

Schedule & Travel

This role entails 50% to 75% travel, with work required on some weekends and holidays. Approximately 45–50 hours per week on average, with occasionally longer working weeks.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple personnel, tasks, and projects
  • Ability to manage the team to meet the time requirements for each installation
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems and their installation
  • Experience reading blueprints and mechanical drawings
  • Trained in articulating lifts, platform lifts, and forklifts
  • Experience with welding, drilling, grinding, mechanical assembly, rigging, and fabrication techniques
  • Functional knowledge of MS Office products
  • Read and understand field installation specifications and documents

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED — further technical training or certifications preferred
  • Ability to pass a background check / MVR / drug test
  • Willing to travel
  • Proven experience in a leadership role
  • Knowledge of conveyor and industrial machinery
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skill set
  • Team builder / mentor mentality
  • Excellent with customers

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in a field such as machinery installation, conveyor installation, metalworking, millwright, or other related field
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role in such a field
