Lathe Controls Upgrade – Precision & Safety Enhanced (Legacy 1.6)

This project involved a complete controls upgrade on a lathe, integrating state-of-the-art automation and safety features. The machine now operates with a new Saginaw control panel and an Allen Bradley Safety CompactLogix PLC, ensuring seamless performance and reliability.

Key upgrades include:
New Locking Door – Featuring an Allen Bradley locking gate switch for enhanced safety.
Advanced Motion Control – Installed four new Allen Bradley servo motors paired with Kinetix 5700 servo drives for precision movement.
Zero Speed Monitoring – The rotating spindle is equipped with a zero-speed monitor, preventing the door from unlocking or opening until the spindle reaches 0 RPM, ensuring operator safety.
Upgraded Safety Door – Built with 3/8” Lexan, allowing operators to monitor the process while staying protected from debris.
Smooth Operation – The door is mounted on THK linear rails and bearings, making part changeouts quick and effortless.

This upgrade not only enhances safety and efficiency but also improves machine performance, creating a more reliable and operator-friendly system.
